Survey NetwOArk

Survey OA patients across Europe to assess their level of understanding of their condition and determine what they know about treatment guidelines.

The aim of this study is to determine what the knowledge about osteoarthritis is among people with osteoarthritis, what they themselves can do in case of complaints of osteoarthritis and what they can expect from healthcare providers. Below is more information about the study and what it means for you to take part in this study.  If you have any questions, please go to https://netwoark.eu/ for the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions).

Participation in this study is voluntary.

General information study

The study was set up by a European network of osteoarthritis researchers. The study is being conducted by Erasmus MC University Medical Centre in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, on behalf of the European Network on Osteoarthritis (NetwOArk).

The aim of this study is to determine what the knowledge about osteoarthritis is among people with osteoarthritis, what they themselves can do in case of complaints of osteoarthritis and what they can expect from healthcare providers.

We want to gain insight into the current knowledge of people with osteoarthritis about their condition. With this, we want to determine what further research and/or resources are needed in this area. For example:

  • Whether information is needed for patients, patient organisations, websites or other media
  • Whether education is needed for healthcare providers
  • Whether there is a gap between patients and healthcare providers
  • Whether there is a need for specific education in a particular country

We are therefore conducting a European survey to gain more knowledge and insight on this topic.

How does the survey work and what does it mean for you?

We ask you to complete a one-off anonymous questionnaire. The questionnaire will take about 10 to 15 minutes to complete. You have no direct benefit from participating in this survey. However, your participation may contribute to more knowledge about osteoarthritis. Participation is entirely voluntary. You can stop at any time.

What do we do with the data from the study?

Your data will only be used for research purposes. First, a number of general questions will be asked, such as your age, gender and home situation. Then a number of questions about osteoarthritis and any symptoms you have will be asked. Finally, a number of questions about your knowledge of osteoarthritis and the treatments you have undergone will follow.

By proceeding to complete this questionnaire, you are giving your consent to participate in this study. You are free to leave the questionnaire at any time. All the answers you have filled in are anonymous. Once your completed responses have been sent, they cannot be removed from the study.

By continuing, you agree to:

  • I have read the information letter. I know that participating is voluntary. I also know that I can decide at any time not to participate after all or to stop the study. I do not have to give a reason for doing so.
  • I consent to the collection and use of my data in the manner and for the purposes specified in the information letter.
  • I give permission for my data to be stored within Erasmus MC, the Netherlands, for 15 years after this study.
